The hinge mechanism lets it open and close around the wrist rather than needing to slide over the hand, which matters given how substantial this piece is. Enamelling on a men's kada is a traditional technique that's become harder to find done well, since it requires firing colour directly onto gold without disturbing the diamond settings nearby.
